Women’s Cricket Daily – 6 July 2026
Welcome to today’s women’s international cricket update featuring overnight results, today’s matches, breaking news and a look back through history.
News in brief
- Australia! Australia has defeated England by 7 wickets to win the 2026 T20 World Cup. Beth Mooney (64) was named both Player of the Match and Player of the Series.
- Mooney is the first player to twice win POTM in a World Cup Final (2023, 2026) and first to win Player of the Tournament twice (2020, 2026).
- From Mooney: “This has been on the calendar for a little while for us. It’s just nice to be part of the squad, first and foremost, and then have a role to play in batting and keeping. Just pumped to be here. There’s been a lot of evolution in this group in the last 12 months, and a lot of growth, and some fun times as well. So, really nice to be part of the team today.”
- From Aussie skipper, Sophie Molineux: “Too good to be true. A lot of thought, a lot of effort, hard work and a group that is ready to do anything for each other. Having the likes of Pez to calm the team down. Someone like Lucy Hamilton take it to water, she was just so calm. Being able to trust each other, we have been doing it the last few weeks.”
- From England skipper, Nat Sciver-Brunt: “We were outplayed today by a classy Australian side. You saw their experience in a huge final. We were short of a par score on that wicket. It felt tricky to gain momentum with the bat. When the pressure is on, their bowlers hit their mark. We left it too late in our bowling innnigs.”
- Friday quiz: Stumped! How many will you get this week? Do the quiz.
- Shree Charani‘s was the leading wicket taker for the tournament with 14.
- Danni Wyatt-Hodge was the leading run scorer with 302 runs.
