Welcome to today’s women’s international cricket update featuring overnight results, today’s matches, breaking news and a look back through history.

News in brief

  • Here we are! All eyes tuned to Lord’s for tonight’s World Cup final between England and Australia.
  • Both finalists went through the group stage undefeated, before winning their respective semi finals. Both teams played this venue during the group stage, England defeating West Indies and Australia beating India. Both were relatively high scoring matches so one could expect that to be the case tonight. The team batting first will want 180+
  • There are no reported injury concerns for either team.
  • England skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt and her team are prepared. “Everyone knows what it’s about, we’re playing in a World Cup final at home at Lord’s. The occasion is already massive and we’re playing Australia.”
  • The Aussies are prepared. “You can’t really sit back and wait for the game to come to you in T20 cricket and that’s a big thing for us, to be able to express ourselves and play our way, whether that be to take on the opposition in a really aggressive way or is it to absorb and use our cricket smarts.” – Sophie Molineux
  • A big question for the Aussies: will they play Alana King?
  • Friday quiz: Stumped! How many will you get this week? Do the quiz.
  • Shabnim Ismail‘s 51 T20 World Cup wickets, the first player to reach that mark and leading all time wicket taker in T20 World Cups. (Next best is  Megan Schutt with 48.)
  • Player of the Tournament page nears the end. Danni Wyatt-Hodge currently sits in top spot, and potentially retains that with a good performance tomorrow in the final.
  • Shree Charani‘s 2-32 against Australia makes her the leading wicket taker for the tournament with 14.
  • Danni Wyatt-Hodge is the leading run scorer with 282.
