Born on 5th October 1988 in Capetown, current Test, ODI and T20 International player for South Africa, Shabnim Ismail.
As a seventeen year old she made her debut for Western Province in season 2005/6 and collected 15 wickets. By January 2007 Shabnim was wearing national colours when she made her ODI debut against Pakistan, picking up 2-38 from her 10 overs.
2007 was a big year. Her Test debut came in July against the Netherlands where she picked up 1-15 and 2-5. It remains her only Test match to date. In the same year she opened her T20 International career against New Zealand in August.
Shabnim’s 191 ODI wickets to date is the highest of all time for South Africa and second overall. Her 6-10 against the Netherlands in November 2011 is the best return for a South African bowler. Her 115 T20I wickets is the highest for South Africa.
