Born on October 26th 1977, in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, Sue Redfern is a former England Test and ODI player and current ICC umpire.
Redfern made her international debut in an ODI against Netherlands in July 1995 at the age of 17. The teenager took 2-10 with her left arm medium pacers. Shortly after her 18th birthday, Sue found herself in India making her Test debut in November 1995.
Sue Redfern played six Test matches for England, scoring 146 runs at 29.20 with a high score of 30. With the ball, 6 wickets with a best of 2-27. She played fifteen ODIs, almost never batted – a high score of 27, it must be said – with 16 wickets at 18.18 with a best haul of 4-21. She also played in the 1997 World Cup in India.
Upon retirement, Sue has held the position of inclusion and diversity manager with the ECB, but it is with a counter in her hand where she is currently working, as an umpire with the ICC. She has been standing as an umpire in international cricket since 2015, in both men’s and women’s cricket. In 2017 Sue became the first woman to have both played in and umpired a World Cup. She has since officiated in the 2018 and 2020 T20 World Cups.
In 2018 Sue Redfern was awarded an MBE for services to cricket both in the UK and abroad.
