Joy Partridge

Born on March 28th 1899 in Lindridge, Worcestershire, a member of England’s first women’s Test cricket team, Joy Partridge.

Joy played in the first four Test matches England played, on the 1934/35 tour of Australia and New Zealand. She has the dubious honour of scoring England’s first duck in Tests.

Over those four Tests Joy batted in the middle order but rarely got much of a hit batting after Myrtle Maclagan, Betty Snowball, Molly Hide and Mollie Child. She scored 33 runs in total with a best of 26 not out against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Joy’s right-arm slow bowling earned her 12 wickets at 22.91 with a best of 6-96, also against Australia at the SCG.

Tragically Joy died in 1947 at the young age of 48.
