Debbie Stock

Born on July 17th in Oxford, is former Test and ODI player for England, Debbie Stock, mostly known for her bowling.

A right-hand batter and right-arm off-break bowler, Debbie began her career with Thames Valley Women in 1987 and actually got a taste of international cricket when the Australians toured in the same year. She was selected to play for East Anglia and Thames Valley Women and scored 0 not out. It would not be the first time an international team would struggle to remove this batter.

Debbie was selected in the England squad for the tour to Australia and New Zealand in 1991/92 and made her ODI debut against Australia at Wellington in the Shell Tri-Series. She would go on to play 15 ODIs which included the 1993 World Cup and took 13 wickets at 27.26 with a best of 2-2. She made the most of limited opportunities with the bat and had a high score of 46 against New Zealand in 1996 at Leicester.

It was in the same of 1991/92 that Debbie made her Test debut, against New Zealand at Wanganui. She made her highest score in Tests of 22 in that match, her first Test scalp Shelley Fruin. In her 7 Test matches Debbie would go on to take 15 wickets at 28.66 with a best of 4-32 against India at Jamshedpur in 1995/96.

In that same series, at Hyderabad, perhaps the high-water mark for Debbie, but with the bat. She batted for three hours and fifteen minutes to make 9 not out.  With her at the other end, number 11, Clare “Romper” Taylor who also made 9 not out. This last wicket partnership going for 118 minutes in the last session on the final day allowed to escape with a draw and win the series. It is surely one of the most remarkable partnerships in Test cricket.
