Joyce Goldsmith

From Melbourne in Victoria, Joyce Goldsmith is a former Test allrounder for Australia who played three Tests against England in 1968/69.

Joyce toured England with the Australian team in 1963 but didn’t get to play in a Test match. According to the tour programme:

A promising young all-rounder who has gained rapid promotion. Coached by Nell McLarty. Started playing when 5 years old, encouraged by mother. Selected for Touring Team after first appearance for Victoria. Technical assistant.”

It would be another five years before Australia played another Test series, at home in Muriel Picton’s team against England in 1968/9. Joyce made her Test debut at Thebarton Oval in Adelaide where she made what would be her highest score, 58, caught and bowled Rachael Heyhoe.

Across the three Tests that summer, which would be her entire Test career, Joyce scored 129 runs at 32.25 and took 3 wickets with a best of 2-44.

From 1963 to 1969 there were only six international matches (Tests) for Australia in six years. Had there been more cricket available this talented allrounder would have had a loftier career.
