Born 23rd February 1955 in Sydney, NSW, former Test opening batter for Australia, Debbie Martin, also a handy medium pace bowler.
Debbie made her Test debut in Sharon Tredrea’s Australian team of 1978/9 and her primary role was opening the batting. It was a tough series against New Zealand. Some new faces in the Aussie team and indeed Sharon was a new captain. Debbie made 73 runs over the three Tests at 18.25.
Prior to that all-too-brief Test career, Debbie made her international debut four years prior in 1974/5 when the Australian Under 25’s toured India. Once again she was an opener, but this time with the ball. Across the three unofficial Test matches Debbie took 14 wickets at 15.29. On her birthday she took 3-38 at Eden Gardens in Calcutta (Kolkata).
