Records Fly for Jersey in Massive Win

Jersey captain Chloe Greechan and chose to bat. They were wobbling at 56/4 in the ninth over but an unbeaten 119 run partnership between Mia McGuire (44*) and Trinity Smith (59*) put things well on track. It is the highest partnership for any wicket for the Jersey team.

McGuire is a keeper/batter and before this match had played in nine T20 Internationals without picking up a bat, so her 44 not out was a welcome introduction to batting in international cricket for the fifteen year old left-hander. At the other end, Trinity Smith, also a teenager, scored the first half century ever made by a Jersey player in T20 Internationals.

Jersey finished with a massive 175/4 from their twenty overs, their highest total in T20Is. Best with the ball for Spain was Uswa Syed (1-20) who was far more economical that the other bowlers in terms of extras, the team giving away 22 wides and 14 no-balls.

As in their debut match, Spain again relied on the captain Elspeth Fowler (29) to lead the way, but she received very little run scoring support apart from Uswa Syed (14). The most important factor for the team, apart from reaching triple figures for the first time, is that they batter their full allotment of overs. It was a marginal improvement on their performance against Austria the previous day, but well short of the target, with Jersey victors by 67 runs.

Best with the ball for Jersey was Trinity Smith with 2-18 and when combined with her efforts with the bat she was a simple choice for Player of the match.
