Normal Service Resumes for Jersey

After an absence of two years from playing international cricket, Jersey looked as though they’d never had a break as they defeated the hosts in style by 7 wickets in the opening fixture of the France Quadrangular 2022.

Both teams had new captains – Marie Violleau for France and Chloe Greechan for Jersey – and each team had three debutants. Pooja Ganesh, Lydie Wykes-Templeman and Blandine Verdon for France; Charlie Miles, Erin Duffy and Trinity Smith for Jersey. The two teams had met each other twice before with a victory apiece.

Chloe Greechan won the toss for Jersey and sent France in to bat. The batting lacked any level of intent and the Jersey bowlers kept the scoring to a minimum. It wasn’t until Poppy McGeown (17) and two of the new players, Pooja Ganesh (21) and Lydie Wykes-Templeman (17) before runs began to flow. But too little was done in the first half of the innings leaving France with an underwhelming 87/5 after their twenty overs. Greechan herself led the way with the ball taking 2-13.

A much more urgent start to the Jersey innings saw nearly half the runs scored by the end of the Powerplay. They lost their first wicket at 42 when Maria Da Rocha was dismissed by Marie Violleau, but the newcomer Charlie Miles (39*) dominated the bowlers with a strike rate of 121.87 and ultimately her aggressive knock saw Jersey over the line with 7 wickets in hand. They polished off the runs in 12.5 overs.

For her innings Miles was named Player of the Match and Jersey collected 2 points for their impressive performance.
