Electric Brazil Dazzle Argentina for 12
Already showing their slick work in the field against the USA, the Brazil team blew their neighbours out of the water with tight bowling, catching and returns from the field to effect runouts to dismiss Argentina for just 12 runs.
Knowing just how tough this pitch is to bat on in the morning, Brazil captain Roberta Avery had only one choice to make when she won the toss: field first. It was the skipper who took first catch – so panther-like on the offside, sometimes at backward point, other times at short cover – a lethal weapon on the offside for her team. It was the only catch she took but it set the tone, her team fielding with gusto all around her.
The wickets were shared among the six bowlers used, the best being Renata de Sousa (2-1) with her medium pacers and Lara Moises (2-3) displaying lovely flight with her off-breaks. Top score for Argentina was 3 wides.
Tamara Basile (2-6) saw to it that things didn’t all go Brazil’s way in the chase but in the end it was 13/2.
Renata de Sousa was named Player of the match with two of everything: two wickets, two catches and two runouts.
Scores:
Argentina 12 (Renata de Sousa 2-1, Lara Moises 2-3) 11.2 overs
