Born on 15th October 1968 in Jamaica, is former Test, ODI and T20I player for West Indies, Nadine Andrea Julietta George.
A left-hand batter and wicket keeper, Nadine is one of only two players to represent West Indies in all three forms of the game, the other being Juliana Nero. (Candacy Atkins also played Test and ODI for West Indies but her only T20I match has been for the USA.)
Nadine made her international debut for West Indies in an ODI against Sri Lanka in March 2003 as an opening batter. Also making her debut, Juliana Nero who kept wickets. By the end of that six match series Nadine had moved down the order and took over wicket keeping duties.
The following season, 2003/04, West Indies toured India and Pakistan. They played five ODIs against India and seven against Pakistan. In between all of those matches West Indies played a one off Test against Pakistan at Karachi. It was Nadine’s one and only Test and the most recent played by West Indies. Joining her on debut was Juliana Nero.
Shaiza Khan declared Pakistan’s first innings at 426/7, the feature of which was the record breaking innings by Kiran Baluch of 242. Nadine was second top score with 22 when the Windies were skittled for just 147. Shaiza (7-59) enforced the follow-on and picked up six wickets in the second innings, however the West Indies fought back hard on the back of 118 scored by Nadine George.
Coming in at number three when the West Indies were 17/1, Nadine batted for 232 minutes, faced 185 balls and scored 15 boundaries on her way to 118 and wasn’t dismissed until the score was 318. Around her there were half centuries to Verena Felicien, Stephanie Power and Jacqueline Robinson. Even Juliana Nero chipped in with 32 as the West Indies dug themselves out of a hole with 440 runs in the second innings.
A memorable Test debut for Nadine who finished with a Test average of 70. She remains to this day the only West Indies player to have scored a Test century.
Returning to the shorter formats, Nadine played in 41 ODIs from 2002/03 to 2008/09, scoring 622 runs with a top score of 53. With the gloves she took 8 catches and a stumping. Nadine was appointed captain in 2008 and is the ninth player to lead West Indies in ODIs. She skippered the team in 10 matches, winning 5, losing 4 and 1 no result.
On 27th June 2008 Nadine and the entire West Indies team made their debut in T20 Internationals. By now 39 years of age, Nadine opens the batting, is the wicket keeper and is the very first captain of the West Indies T20I team. Joining her on debut, yes, Juliana Nero. Also on debut that day, former West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor who top scored with 90 and Stacy Ann King who scored 52.Nadine played just the three T20 matches for West Indies, with a top score of 31 with the bat and 4 stumpings with the gloves.
