Norma Whiteman

Born on December 28th 1927 in Bathurst, New South Wales, former Australia Test fast bowler Norma Whiteman.

Whiteman played in an era dominated by spin bowlers such as Betty Wilson, Una Paisley and Myrtle Craddock so the period of her Test career – 1947/8 – 1951 – was not an easy time for a pace bowler.

The wickets in England in 1951 were far more friendly to pace bowlers and this was her best series, taking 12 wickets at 21.91 with a best of 4-33 in the third Test at the Oval. Only Betty Wilson (16) took more wickets on that tour.
