Lynn made her debut opening the batting for Victoria under the captaincy of Una Paisley in 1959/60 in the National Championships against Auckland making just 1 run in the first innings but backing up with 27 in the second.
Selected for the 1963 tour of England, Lynn opened the batting with captain Mary Allitt. Australia lost the series and would not play Test cricket for another five years, when England toured Australia in 1968/9 with Rachael Heyhoe as captain and Muriel Picton skipper of the home team.
Lynn made her highest Test score of 93 in the first Test at Thebarton Oval in Adelaide but the match, like the series, ended in a draw. A five year gap in Test cricket in matches played over three days – nobody was playing too adventurously.
It was 1974/5 before Lynn played again, against New Zealand under new skipper Wendy Blunsden, this time batting at first drop. Another dull draw, so typical of the times.
Lynn’s final Test match, at home under new captain Marg Jennings, against the visiting India Team, was an opportunity to shine with her leg breaks. She took 2-10 in the first innings and 2-36 in the second as Australia won by 147 runs.
In eight Test matches over fourteen years, Lynn scored 349 runs at 29.08 with a high score of 93. She took 5 wickets at 23.60. She played under four different Test skippers – five if you count her state captain Una Paisley.
