Rasanjali Silva won the toss for the home team and chose to bat, then declaring at 305/9 in 96.1 overs, a cracking rate for Women’s Test matches at the time. Batting at number nine, Rose Fernando was second top score with 44.

Set over 400 to win the match, Pakistan folded for just 100 runs, with Rose picking up 3-28 in the process, including the Khan sisters, Shaiza and Sharmeen.

Rose continued to play for Sri Lanka in the ODI format for another decade. She appeared in another World Cup, in Australia in 2008/09. In 37 ODIs, Rose collected 43 wickets at just 14.41 runs per wicket and an economy of 2.28.

As her career reached the end, T20 Internationals came into play and Rose played in just three during the World Cup of 2009.
