Frankie Mackay

Born on 1st June 1990 in Christchurch, Canterbury,  ODI and T20 International player for New Zealand Frances Louise “Frankie” Mackay.

A right-hand batter and right-arm off-break bowler, Frankie made her debut for Canterbury in 2007/08 in a team lead by Amy Satterthwaite and containing Sophie Devine whose career also began in the same season.

Just after her 21st birthday Frankie made her debut for the White Ferns in an ODI against Australia at Allan Border field in Brisbane in June 2011. She opened the batting and top scored for the team with 36. On the same tour of Australia Frankie also made her T20 International debut. It was the beginning of a career that continues today, a decade long, yet punctuated by a five year gap. From 2014 she is no longer in the national side.

A dominant performance with both bat and ball in the domestic Super Smash tournament in 2018/19 saw a return to favour with the selectors and Frankie was recalled to the White Ferns team to play India at home.

The Covid Pandemic kept the allrounder off the park until the season of 2020/21 when New Zealand hosted both England and Australia. This followed another stellar performance in the Super Smash where she took the Canterbury Magicians to win the trophy.

In the second T20I against Australia, Frankie had a Player of the Match performance that lead to a White Ferns victory. Opening the bowling with her off-breaks she removed both Rachael Haynes and Ashleigh Gardner to take 2-20. She also opened the batting and paved the way for victory with a match winning 46 – on one leg. A hamstring problem during the innings meant Frankie struggled to run between wickets. Instead she just cut and pulled aggressively, helping herself to a pair of sixes along the way.

Frankie achieved her best ODI bowling figures in the World Cup played in New Zealand in 2022 where she took 4-34 against England at Auckland. In fact with Lea Tahuhu she was the leading wicket taker (10) for the home team in the tournament.
