Amanda-Jade Wellington

Born on 29th May 1997 in Adelaide, South Australia is Test, ODI and T20I player for Australia, Amanda-Jade Wellington.

“Wello” is a right-hand batter and leg-break bowler, inspired by former Australian cricketer Shane Warne. She made her club cricket debut for Port Adelaide and represented South Australia at the national U15s championships in 2011 where she was the player of the tournament.

The following season she made her debut for the South Australia Scorpions in the WNCL at the age of 15 and becoming the youngest person to represent the state at senior cricket. The team included past and future Test players in captain Lauren Ebsary, Megan Schutt and Tahlia McGrath, along with England’s Beth Morgan.

In 2016/17 Wellington made her international debut for Australia in an ODI against South Africa at Coffs Harbour. Also on debut Tahlia McGrath. Wello took 1-35 from her ten overs which included the wicket of Mignon du Preez.

The big spinning leggie would soon make her way into the national T20 squad the same season and in her debut against New Zealand took 3-15 from her four overs.

The following season Wello played her one Test match to date against England at North Sydney Oval. She dismissed Tammy Beaumont in both innings.

To date however, Wello’s best numbers have come in the T20 format, in fact in December 2017, she was named as one of the players in the ICC Women’s T20I Team of the Year.
