Zimbabwe v South Africa EP 22 May 2021

Series: Africa Emerging Players in Zimbabwe May 2021
Venue: Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo
Format: List A
Toss: South Africa Emerging Players
Result: South Africa by 79 runs

Spinners Emerge

It was expected that the spinners would have a bigger role to play on this wicket as each match progressed and so it proved for both teams in this third encounter between Zimbabwe and South Africa Emerging Players.

Andrie Steyn won the toss for the visitors and for the third time in succession chose to bat. Where she and opener Tazmin Brits had their way in the first two matches, both were dismissed quickly here for 14 and 6 respectively by a much improved Nomvelo Sibanda.

Despite a quickfire 41 from Anneke Bosch, runs dried up and wickets fell with SA EP in a precarious position at 97/5 in the 24th over. A rescue mission by Delmi Tucker (65) and Masabata Klaas (59*) brought the situation under control and SA EP finished with a more than reasonable total of 242/7.

Zimbabwe was never in the chase. Aside from captain Josephine Nkomo (63*), her third half century in succession, there was little resistance shown by any of the other batters. One positive is that they batted the 50 overs once again, despite being well short with 163/8.

South Africa Emerging Players now go 3-0 up in the series with two left to play.

Scores:

South Africa EP 242/7  (Tucker 65, Klaas 59*, Sibanda 4-57, Phiri 2-23) 50 overs
