Born on 25th May 1965 in Kilnsey, Yorkshire, former Test and ODI player for England, Susan Jacqueline Metcalfe.
Sue was a right-hand batter who also bowled right-arm fast, along with being a wicket keeper. After making her way through junior rep teams she made her debut for Yorkshire in 1984 and in the same season made her debut for England.
At Headingley on the 6th July 1984 Sue made her Test debut (cap 92) and did not get a bat. However she bowled in both innings. In the first she removed New Zealand captain Debbie Hockley. In the second innings she removed future captain Karen Plummer. (She would only take one more wicket in tests, that of India captain, Shantha Rangaswamy. Three Test wickets, all captains!)
By the time that summer was over, Sue was on the plane to Australia, having been selected in the touring team of 1984/85. She would make her ODI debut in a match at Aberfeldie Park in Melbourne and it would be her only match on that tour.
By 1986 Sue is transitioning from being a fast bowler batting at the tail end to becoming more of a batter, comfortably placed in the middle order and rarely bowling. She toured Australia and New Zealand in 1991/92 and to India in 1995/96.
Sue played in 36 ODI matches which included an appearance at the 1997/98 World Cup in India. She scored 534 runs at 24.27 with a high score of 51 not out against South Africa at Bristol in 1997. Remarkably she only bowled 36 deliveries in ODIs.
In thirteen Test matches spanning twelve years from 1984 to 1996, Sue scored 365 runs at 24.33 with a top score of 66 against New Zealand at Worcester in 1996. With well over a decade of service to international cricket, Sue retired in 1998.
