Born on 29th July 1985 in Adelaide, South Australia, is former Test, ODI and T20 International player for Australia, Emma Sampson.
A right-hand batter and medium-fast bowler, Emma was primarily a bowler, however when she made her debut for South Australia against NSW in 2001 at age sixteen, the captain, Karen Rolton, chose to not bowl the newcomer. Instead, the youngster made 9 not out against a Test grade attack including Sthalekar, Twining, Calver and McGregor.
Three days later, at Wollongong, Emma bowled first change and took 2-41 from her 10 overs, including the wickets of Lisa Keightley (bowled) Michelle Goszko (c&b). Batting at number eight, Emma was second top score for SA with 24. Later that same season 3-30 against Western Australia and then in February 2002 her first taste of international cricket when South Australia took on New Zealand. Emma took 2-51 from 10 overs.
Solid performances for SA in the ensuing years meant a call up for the national squad, making her ODI debut against New Zealand in February 2007. As with her List A debut, Emma made 9 not out. Partnering Cathryn Fitzpatrick with the new ball, she took 1-48, her first international wicket that of Suzie Bates.
Emma’s T20 debut came in Darwin in July 2007 against New Zealand, taking 2-16 from her 4 overs, dismissing Amy Satterthwaite and Rachel Priest in the process. Those were Emma’s best figures in her four T20 matches. She played one Test, against England at Bowral in 2007/08, taking 2-65 and 1-28.
The World Cup at home in 2009 was Emma’s last series. He played in 30 ODIs taking 39 wickets at 24.02. Her best return was 5-30 against New Zealand at Lincoln in 2008. She retired after the World Cup at age 24, a career short, but sweet.
