Born on February 22nd 1989 in Vanderbijlpark, Transvaal, former Test, ODI and T20 cricketer for South Africa, Johmari Logtenberg.
Johmari burst onto the international scene in 2003 and immediately had a big impact on the game. Her Test debut against England 7th Aug 2003 at age 14 years and 166 days makes her the second youngest player to debut in the international arena. (Sajjida Shah, 12 years, 178 days is the youngest.)
In that Test, Johmari scored 74 in the first innings, making her the youngest player, woman or man, to score an international half century. Nine days later she repeated the feat in an ODI.
Johmari didn’t reach those heights again in Test cricket but she certainly left a mark on the ODI game. In 26 matches, 848 runs at 38.54 with a high score of 153 not out, with two centuries and five 50s.
Her last innings for South Africa was the second of her two T20 matches, on 10th August 2007, four years and three days after her international debut. Johmari quit cricket to take up golf for purely financial reasons. Back in 2003 there was no money in women’s cricket, even for one who shone so brightly.
