Anisa Mohammed

Born on August 7th 1988 in Trinidad, current ODI and T20 International player for West Indies, Anisa Mohammed.

A right-arm batter and right-arm off-break bowler, Anisa’s main discipline is with the ball and she has become a most dominant figure in both forms of the white ball game over the last seventeen years.

Anisa made her international debut for West Indies in 2003, just fifteen years of age, in a World Cup qualifier against Japan in the Netherlands. She took one wicket, Ritsuko Hiroto, caught and bowled. From her ten overs she finished with 1-4. In the ensuing years, the Japanese wouldn’t be the only ones bamboozled by this Trinidadian.

When this player comes in to bowl, she has such a look of confidence in her body language and mannerisms that she is expecting to take a wicket. Not hoping or wishing, but expecting. She knows.

If 1-4 from ten overs causes a double-take, how about these numbers: in 132 ODIs Anisa has taken 180 wickets at 20.75. That is all-time best for West Indies and third overall. Her 7-14 is best for West Indies and third overall, and one of six 5 wicket hauls – the most by anyone. That 7-14 came against Pakistan in a World Cup Qualifier, from 8.3 overs.

Anisa has played in five World Cups – so far – 2005, 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2022 in New Zealand.

In T20 Internationals, the numbers are just as good. She has taken 125 wickets at 17.64, the most by any player and the only West Indies player to pass 100. She has three 5 wicket hauls, again the most by any player. Along the way Anisa has appeared in seven T20 World Cups. Truly, a modern day legend – and still going.
