Chamari Athapaththu

Born 9th February 1990 in Gokarella, current captain of Sri Lanka ODI and T20 teams, Chamari Athapaththu.

Chamari made her T20 International debut at the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 2009 at the age of nineteen. She played just the one match in the tournament, making 16 from 23 balls. It was a modest start for a player who would blaze away with her bat in both T20 and ODI formats to the present day. In season 2014/15 she became the captain of the Sri Lanka T20 team.

In T20 format, Chamari has played in seven World Cups. A debut in the ODI format came in 2010 and despite her good numbers in T20, her performances in the longer format are even better.

Surely her best knock was the 178 not out she blasted against the Australian team at the ODI World Cup in 2017. Her innings came from just 143 deliveries and included 22 fours and 6 sixes.
