Born on 14th May 1988 in Karachi, Sind, current ODI and T20 International player for Pakistan, Javeria Khan.
Javeria, a right-hand batter and right-arm off-break bowler, made her debut for Karachi in 2006/07 against Hyderabad in the National Women’s Cricket Championship under the captaincy of Sana Mir. She took 4-14 from seven overs and scored just four runs batting at four. She would ultimately become more known for her batting than her bowling, one of the best number four batters in the world.
The Asia Cup of 2008 saw Javeria make her ODI debut for Pakistan under the leadership of Urooj Mumtaz against Sri Lanka. She took 0-36 and batted at number ten. In her second match, batting at number eight against India she top scored for Pakistan with 20 runs. She would bat in the lower order for the next year, despite being one of the few run scorers in a team that was producing low totals.
That status didn’t change with her debut in T20 Internationals or new captain Sana Mir. In only her second T20I, Javeria top scored with 16 not out as she guided Pakistan to victory over Ireland in Dublin in 2009. She was still widely regarded as a bowler.
Gradually, fortunately, Javeria was given opportunities at the top of the order and she has repaid that move by becoming the highest run scorer of all time for Pakistan in ODIs. In 116 matches Javeria has scored 2885 runs at 28.56 with a high score of 133 not out. Her 113 not out the second of her two centuries in the format. She rarely bowls now, with 17 wickets at 37.14. (Best of 3-22). She has also captained the team in the absence of regular skipper, Bismah Maroof.
In T20 Internationals, it is a similar tale. Javeria has played 112 matches scoring 2018 runs, second only to Bismah. She has a strike rate of 93.38 and has scored nine half centuries with a top score of 74 not out.
