Series: France Quad-Series May 2022
Venue: Dreux Sport Cricket Club Ground
Format: T20I
Toss: Spain
Result: Austria by 48 runs
Run Festival for Both Teams
Runs galore from the bat, but this match was a battle of the extras for there were 93 between the two teams. Elspeth Fowler won the toss for Spain and chose to field.
It was a good start for Spain, removing opening batter Busra Uca with the first delivery of the match, the Austrian trapped in front by Amy Brown-Carrera.
That however, was as good as it got for the bowling team, and despite a mini collapse towards the back end of the innings, it was plain sailing for the batting team with Mahadewa Pathirannehelage (49) and Jo-An Stiglitz (36*) best with the bat. Mahadewa passed 100 career runs with her knock.
Best with the ball, Muskan Naseeb with 2-12, the second best figures for Spain in their short career, and Amy Brown-Carrera with 2-29.
Spain’s Elspeth Fowler (44) continues to impress with the bat and while ever she is there, the runs keep flowing, the mainstay of the team’s batting. The youngster Amy Brown-Carrera (31*) joined her with some runs. Both of these players have good techniques, however apart from those two it was slim pickings for the rest of the batting and they finished their innings with 117/2, Austria winners by 48 runs.
Elspeth Fowler now has 99 runs to her name for the series, and indeed her career. With one more match tomorrow, her first single will bring up triple figures which for a new team is a terrific effort from the captain.
Unlucky to fall short of her half century, Mahadewa Pathirannehelage was awarded Player of the Match. Both teams will play France on the final day of the competition.
