Born November 25th 1942 in Wellington, former New Zealand Test and ODI cricketer, Barbara Bevege played in three successive World Cups.
Barb made her First Class debut for Auckland in 1962/3 before moving back to play with Wellington in 1966/7, but her first cap for New Zealand would not happen until 1973 when she is part of the White Ferns squad for the first World Cup. Her first match was against Trinidad & Tobago.
Also part of the squad for the 1978 World Cup, Barb scored her maiden ODI century when the World Cup was held at home in New Zealand in 1981/2. Over the best part of a decade, Barb figured in three World Cups for New Zealand.
A Test debut came in 1974/5 at the Basin Reserve in Wellington. Opening the batting with Judy Doull against the celebrated pace attack of Sharon Tredrea and Raelee Thompson, Barb figured in an 84 run opening stand, of which she contributed 44. In the second innings she was desperately unlucky to miss out on a debut century when she was bowled for 96 by Patsy May. In her second Test appearance, she went exactly four closer when she scored 100 not out against India at Dunedin in 1977.
In her five Test matches, 400 runs at 44.44, with the one century and two fifties. In sixteen ODIs, 488 runs with a top score of 101 and three wickets at 16.00. In 1999, Barb passed away at just 56 years of age.
