Series: Nigeria Invitational 2022
Venue: TBS Cricket Oval
Format: T20I
Toss: Sierra Leone
Result: Sierra Leone by 88 runs
It was at the TBS Oval in Lagos that these two teams met for the very first time. Aminata Kamara won the toss for Sierra Leone and chose to bat, and bat they did, making an imposing total of 136/2 from their twenty overs. It’s their third highest total in T20 Internationals.
Mabinty King carried on her good form in this tournament and batted right through the innings, scoring 56 not out, the second highest score by a batter from Sierra Leone and only the second half century for the team.
Along the way she saw the captain dismissed for 33, caught by Miriam Eshun from the bowling of Cynthia Konadu. Eshun took the only other wicket to fall, that of Fatu Pessima whom she trapped in front for 20.
Where Ghana had managed to bat the full twenty overs in their first match, they were unable to repeat the performance here. Five blls into the innings Ann-Marie Kamara trapped Cynthia Konadu in front and just three balls later Fatu Pessima took the first of her four wickets when she dismissed Elizabeth Annor. Both openers were back in the shed with no runs next to their name.
The pattern continued through the innings and it was only Kate Awuah with 16 who put up any resistance, the team humbled for 49 runs in just 12.5 overs. Wickets were shared among Fatu Pessima (4-14), Janet Kowa (3-10) and Ann-Marie Kamara (2-14) as Sierra Leone romped home by 87 runs.
