Series: Nigeria Invitational 2022
Venue: TBS Cricket Oval
Format: T20I
Toss: Ghana
Result: Ghana by 106 runs
An historic meeting between two teams yet to play each other in a T20 International, with Ghana and The Gambia at the TBS Cricket Oval.
Rozabel Asumadu won the toss for Ghana and had no hesitation in batting first. And bat they did! In 20 overs of forceful batting, aided by 47 extras, the team scored the highest total in the tournament so far and indeed, their highest score, of 149/6.
The openers, Elizabeth Annor (19) and Rashidatu Salia (19) put on 43 runs for the first wicket, inside the Powerplay. More runs continued through Felicia Serwaa (28) and a bight cameo from Kate Awuah (15) to set the imposing target for The Gambia. Best with the ball for The Gambia was Sosseh Sano with 3-28.
Marie Sambou was bowled by Janet Alaare for a duck from the first ball of the innings and The Gambia never really recovered from that moment. Top score was Catherine Mendy with 12 runs but she was a lone beacon of light in a dim batting display. Janet Alaare picked up 3-9, while the thirteen year old Beatrice Oduro took 2-4 in her debut match with The Gambia bowled out for just 43.
Ghana won 2 points for their 106 run victory, but more importantly recorded their first ever win in a T20 International. Player of the match was the top scorer on the day, Felicia Serwaa.
