Born on November 23rd, 1981, in Steeton, Yorkshire, is former England Test, ODI and T20I player, Arran Brindle (nee Thompson).
Good performances in junior rep teams and then Lancashire saw the allrounder debut for England’s ODI team against Denmark in the Women’s European Championship 1999. Her right hand batting was now her main tool of trade, her right arm medium pacers taking a back seat.
In 2001 Arran made her Test debut, against the visiting Australians in the first Test at Denis Compton Oval. It was a baptism of fire against a fired up Cathryn Fitzpatrick as England went down by an innings.
In 2001/2, opening the batting with Caroline Atkins, the pair put on 200 runs for the first wicket, a record at the time. Thompson made her highest Test score to date with 85. In 2005, Brindle’s highest Test innings, 101 not out against Australia at Hove. Across eleven Test matches, 551 runs at 30.61 with one century and three fifties.
In 2011 she scored another not out century, 107* in an ODI against South Africa at Potchefstroom. In 88 ODIs for England, Brindle scored 1928 runs at 27.94 with one century and eleven fifties. With the ball, 35 wickets at 22.17, with the very handy best bowling of 3-0.
Brindle also played in 35 T20 Internationals for England with 373 runs at 23.31 with a strike rate of 101.35, 22 wickets at 17.45.
Worth mentioning that in 2011 Brindle became the first woman to score a century in men’s premier league cricket, with 128 in the Lincolnshire ECB Men’s Premier League.
