Sulakshana Naik, born in Mumbai November 10 1978, is a former wicket keeper for India, having played two Tests and 46 ODIs.
Sulakshana’s competitive career began in 1999 in the Rani Jhansi Trophy, playing for West Zone, but wasn’t given the gloves immediately. Once she was, her career moved on swiftly, first for Mumbai and then national selection in 2002 when she became one of the “Women in Blue” making her ODI debut against England. She opened the batting and was out for just 9 runs when the score was 12. The team all out for 59, Naik’s innings of 9 was top score!
In August 2002 Sulakshana made her Test debut as keeper, but in her next Test in 2006 she was chosen as an opener and the gloves were given to Karu Jain.
Her place in white ball cricket was more assured and across 46 ODIs she took 28 catches and 32 stumpings. In 31 T20 internationals, 10 catches and 21 stumpings. This puts Sulakshana Naik in second place in India’s all time wicket keeping dismissals in both formats.
